Tsz Shan Monastery | A Sacred Journey of Greenery and Zen

For OVO GARDEN, our annual return to Tsz Shan Monastery for the Buddha’s Birthday is far more than a styling project—it is a soulful dialogue connecting nature, faith, and timeless design. We are deeply honored to once again curate the floral installations and landscape features for this sacred occasion, continuing a beautiful, years-long tradition of bringing floral Zen to the monastery gates.

The Design Concept | Oriental Stillness • Reflection of Maple & Light
To complement the grounding, grand presence of the monastery’s Tang Dynasty-style timber architecture, we conceived the theme of Oriental Stillness • Reflection of Maple & Light.

Moving away from formal, rigid symmetry, we chose an organic, ecological approach that mirrors the untamed beauty of a mountain stream. Rather than simply arranging flowers, we sought to breathe life back into the space, creating a landscape that feels purely alive.

The Botanical Language: Whispers of Nature
Red Maple — Poetry in Motion
The gracefully sweeping branches of the red maples reach over the water with effortless tension. As their fiery foliage catches the light, they mirror perfectly against the floating golden lotuses, evoking a fluid rhythm akin to drifting clouds and moving water—a delicate balance of stillness and motion.

Hydrangea — Living Vitality Amid Silence
Planted along the water’s edge, clusters of lush hydrangeas form a soft, texturized contrast against the clean lines of the maples. Their rich, full blooms offer a quiet celebration of life without disrupting the sanctuary’s profound peace.

Moss & Green Shrubs — The Grounding Layers
Woven tightly across the base of the design, fine carpets of moss and vibrant green shrubs evoke the misty, serene atmosphere of a hidden forest brook. It is a subtle detail, yet it serves as the essential canvas for the entire landscape.

The Main Shrine Hall — A Realm of Silent Elegance
Within the sacred halls, the arrangement transitions into a minimalist masterpiece featuring elegant Phalaenopsis orchids, sacred golden lotuses, and the stoic form of Hollywood Junipers. By leaning into the beauty of negative space, these elements honor the solemnity of the hall, allowing a quiet, spiritual radiance to bloom from within.

Finding Cleansing and Clarity Within
Every installation we craft for Tsz Shan Monastery becomes a moment of inner stillness for our own team.

Our hope is that as you walk alongside the Bathing Buddha pool, you experience something deeper than just visual beauty. Within the curve of a single branch or the softness of a petal, may you find a gentle reminder to cleanse the mind and welcome daily clarity.

As you cultivate your own green spaces at home, may you carry this same peace with you—shedding the noise of the city, staying anchored in the present, and allowing the heart to bloom as purely as a lotus.
