Purity Illumined, Leaves in Perfect Harmony | Tsz Shan Monastery Guanyin Birthday Floral Presentation

As Guanyin Birthday approaches, the bells and chanting at Tsz Shan Monastery fill the hills, bringing compassion and peace to this sacred place. This year, OVO GARDEN is once again honored to create custom floral installations for the Universal Gate forecourt and Mahavira Hall. We use flowers and foliage to connect with everyone who visits.

We used hundreds of fan-shaped Chinese fan palms as the main structure, layering them to create a natural rhythm that conveys inclusiveness and vitality. Rounded, calm-toned hydrangeas and elegant flowers add a lasting sense of harmony. The combination of greenery and warm, gentle colors brings quiet, refined beauty to the sanctuary.

🌿 Design Concept: Learning from Nature, Embodying Harmony

Guanyin Bodhisattva stands for compassion, hearing the cries of all beings and offering comfort. Her spirit is like the earth, supporting everything, and like sunlight, shining everywhere. We expressed this spirit through our floral designs:

  • Palm Leaves as the Backbone: Hundreds of Chinese fan palms open like fans, symbolizing Guanyin’s great vows and endless compassion. Their sweeping, ordered lines create a natural rhythm in the space, balanced and calm, matching the dignified style of the Tang-era architecture.

  • Hydrangeas as the Heart: The rounded, full hydrangeas in calm, gentle colors stand for perfect harmony and the wisdom of being connected. Each hydrangea is made up of many small florets grouped together, just as all beings gather under Guanyin’s seat to share in the Dharma’s joy.

  • Greenery as the Foundation: Layers of green leaves form the base, showing the constant vitality of the mountain forests. Greenery is not just a visual base but also a spiritual refuge, giving visitors a cool, peaceful place away from the busy city.

🏯 Spatial Layout: Universal Gate Forecourt & Mahavira Hall

The Universal Gate Forecourt is the first place visitors see at the monastery. We created an open, flowing design that fits naturally with the surroundings. The palm leaves guide the eye inward, and the rounded hydrangeas give a feeling of stability and welcome. As visitors walk through the Universal Gate, they are greeted gently.

The Mahavira Hall is the heart of the monastery, solemn and dignified. The floral design here follows the ideas of simplicity and calm, with nothing showy or excessive. This lets the flowers and leaves serve as a quiet tribute that matches the Buddha statues and the space. The mix of hydrangeas and greenery adds softness and life to the solemn setting, showing the idea of 'radiance born of stillness.'

🙏 May the Zen Spirit of Flowers and Foliage Soothe Every Visitor’s Soul

On Guanyin Birthday Open Day, many devotees and visitors come to Tsz Shan Monastery to pay respects, meditate, or simply walk around. We hope this floral installation offers a gentle pause in their journey, a moment to stop by the flowers, let go of worries for a while, and feel refreshed.

Flowers bloom and fade; this is nature’s way. May the Zen spirit from nature plant a seed of peace in every visitor’s heart, growing and blossoming over time.

OVO GARDEN humbly presents this floral offering, sharing in Guanyin’s compassionate light and wishing peace for the world.
